Honda Trademarks ZSX Nameplate, Fueling Speculation for Possible “Baby NSX”

It will supposedly use the Civc Type-R’s turbo engine, as well as electric motors

Rumors that Honda may build a smaller, cheaper NSX are not new, but for the first time we might have confirmation that the company is, in fact, considering it. It recently filed a trademark application with the EU Intelectual Property Office in order to secure the “ZSX” nameplate.

Now automakers file for such trademarks all the time, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they are actually going to make a model. What it does mean, though, is that the manufacturer is leaving the door open for a project that could use the trademarked name and in this case said name is one letter away from the NSX (pictured) – it’s so close, that the speculation around it is justified.

The trademark filing was revealed by Australia’s Performance Drive, which also goes on to quote an unnamed source that apparently is “an engineer at Honda in Japan.” The unnamed insider said the ZSX will be revealed as early as next year and that it will use the 2.0-liter turbo engine from the Civic Type-R aided an electric motor on each axle.
