Jaguar might bring XK back as 2+2 GT coupe

Could be here in 2021

Jaguar no longer sells an XK and the only current coupe you can buy right now is the F-Type which is designed as a smaller vehicle than the XK. However, now it is believed Jag is looking to bring back the XK (2014 MY pictured) and that work on it has already begun.

Autocar quotes Hanno Kirner, a product strategy planner for Jaguar-Land Rover, as saying “the F-Type has been a huge success. We love sports cars – and I use the plural quite deliberately. Whether that is delivered by a body variant or something else remains to be seen, but for now let’s just say that the body type is very important for us.”

The source correlates this statement with an older one by Jaguar design boss, Ian Callum, who said that he wanted a flagship 2+2 coupe in their range and that at the time he was already working on its look.

Both the new XK and the replacement for the current F-Type could be underpinned by a new modular platform and also draw their power from Ingenium series turbocharged engines with inline-four and -six configurations.

There was previous talk of a new XK, but Jaguar reportedly abandoned that project and this XK is completely new and unrelated to that one. It is believed the automaker will first launch a replacement for the F-Type, in 2019, for it to be followed by a new XK “no earlier than 2021.”
