Kia teases stylish new concept car that previews next-generation cee’d

Don’t call it a shooting brake; the term Kia uses is “extended hot hatch”

Kia has announced it will unveil a new concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 12.

Not any design study, but one that "indicates what the next-generation cee'd could look like," according to the automaker. Only one official photo has been released so far, and by the looks of it, we're dealing with a fancy shooting brake body style.

Except we're not. Kia says the concept is an "extended hot hatch" that combines the athleticism of the current pro_cee'd model with real-world versatility.

So what's that got to do with the rather humble cee'd compact car, you might ask? Well, according to the automaker, the study puts forward a "bold vision for a potential member of the next-generation cee'd family." So there you have it, the upcoming Kia cee'd range may include an "extended hot hatch" version.

There's not much else the automaker is willing to share with us at the moment, except that the concept has been designed at its European design center in Frankfurt — just 500 meters from where it will be unveiled.

Stay tuned for more information and photos as we get closer to the study's debut. Until then, you might want to take a look at another Frankfurt-bound study, the MINI Electric Concept.
