Only 25 units will be made

Lotus has lifted the veils off a new limited edition model, the Exige Cup 430 Type 25 that pays tribute to one of the most successful F1 cars of all time — you've guessed it, the Lotus Type 25.

Based on the hardcore Exige Cup 430 unveiled at the end of last year, the Type 25 limited edition model is an homage to the single seat Lotus racing car that dominated the 1963 Formula One season and won the company the first of its seven Constructors' World Championships.

Customers can have the Exige Cup 430 Type 25 in two liveries that were once featured on the classic race car: metallic Lotus Racing Green and Old English White. Each features contrasting pinstripes on the front splitter and front access panel, new and unique bargeboards, roof panel and rear wing, as well as individual decals on each rear buttress. The motorsport theme continues with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (215/45 ZR17 front and 285/30 ZR18 rear), fitted to ultra-lightweight, forged aluminum wheels in black sun rims.

Inside, the limited edition Exige Cup 430 features bodywork keyed color inserts for the seats, transmission console, HVAC surround, and window switches, as well as a custom stripe on the carbon race seats' head and backrest, plus contrast double stitching on seats, door panels, and air vents. Anodized aluminum and carbon fiber elements can be found throughout the cabin, including on the dashboard and instrument binnacle cover. But probably the coolest interior feature is the wooden gear selector knob for the six-speed manual transmission that pays tribute to the original Type 25 F1 car.

The retro styling cues go together with a high-performance powertrain consisting of the Evora GT430's 3.5-liter supercharged and charge-cooled V6 engine that delivers 430 hp at 7,000 rpm and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque from 4,000 rpm. Having to propel just 1,056 kg (2,328 lb) of car (dry weight), the engine allows for a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).

It's certainly the most deserving of Lotus' current road cars to get the Type 25 limited edition, given that it's one of the fastest ever road cars to lap the 2.2-mile (3.5-km) Hethel circuit in just 1 minute 24.8 seconds.
