Lotus Releases New Lightweight Parts for Evora 400, Because Why Not

When it comes to reducing weight, Lotus engineers just can’t help themselves

There is no better way to make a car faster and more fun to drive than to reduce weight and the folks from Lotus are experts at this game.

The British sports car manufacturer has just released a selection of lightweight options for its range-topping Evora 400 model, including a new Carbon Pack, lithium-ion battery, and titanium sports exhaust.

The Carbon Pack consists of a number of components that are already fitted as standard to the ultra-lightweight Evora Sport 410. These include a front splitter section, roof panel, rear wing center, rear diffuser finisher, front access panel and wing mirror caps. All these carbon fiber parts reduce weight by 5 kg (11 lbs) while improving the car’s aesthetics.

Lotus also offers a lightweight titanium sports exhaust and lithium-ion battery, each shaving a further 10 kg (22 lbs) off the Evora 400’s curb weight. But the company’s obsession with cutting weight is best exemplified by the cup holder and oddment tray, which weigh just 120 g (1/4 lbs). Fitted as standard to North America-spec Evora 400 models, the part is an option in Europe and Asia.

These newly-announced features join a number of weight saving measures such as the deletion of the air conditioning system and rear seats. Together, all these options provide a combined saving of 42 kg (93 lbs) over the standard Evora 400.

Prices for the optional Carbon Pack are £6,500 in the UK, €9,000 in Germany, and $10,000 in the U.S., with the titanium sports exhaust adding £5,500/€7,000/$8,000. The lithium-ion battery is priced at £1,350/€1,890/$1,690 while the deletion of air conditioning and rear seats are no-cost options.
