Man Arrested in Britain for Doing 88mph in a DeLorean

The DeLorean apparently can hit 88 mph, it wasn’t just part of the movie plot

The British man, named Nigel Mills, got into quite some trouble as he took his DeLorean out for a spin. He was caught speeding and landed in jail for going 88mph. He claims that he was not trying to travel in time, and says the speed he was doing was just a coincidence.

In Back to the Future (1985), Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) uses a modified DeLorean to transport himself back in time after hitting 88 mph (141 km/h). The car in the movie was the invention of Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd).

“I wasn’t trying to time travel,” said Mills, cited by The Guardian, despite being recorded speeding while heading north on the A12 near Margaretting. “It was at 11am on Sunday and the road was completely clear.” The owner of the car says he only takes out the DeLorean a couple of times a year for a casual drive in the weekend.

This time around, his casual drive landed him in front of a judge, but the whole case was dismissed as the officers on duty that day did not make it to court. Maybe Mills actually time traveled in order to get himself out of trouble, but we will never know for sure.
