McLaren Ultimate Vision GT makes you want to learn how to drive again

No, really: it has an impossible driving position

The Vision GT series — where the car manufacturers design crazy models exclusively for the virtual world — continues with the Gran Turismo Sport, and the latest addition is this McLaren’s wild hypercar.

Although it looks just like an LMP1 car from the (not so distant) future, Ultimate Vision GT’s underpinnings are quite down-to-earth. It uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 to spin the rear wheels while the front ones are powered by individual electric motors. The hybrid power output is rated at 1,134 horsepower and 940 pound-feet (1,274 Nm) of torque.

While these aren’t as mindblowing as the vehicle’s look would make you think, the Vision GT weight is where its real tour-the-force lies. At 2,200 pounds, it is as light as a Mazda Miata. And that puts the performance rating in a whole new perspective. There are no words on the vehicle’s acceleration but we can all imagine this McLaren would easily put any modern hypercar to shame.

Even more interesting than this car’s peculiarly lightweight body is its cockpit — or, more precisely, its driving position. McLaren suggestively describes it as “motorcycle-like,” which means you won’t be laying on your back but rather forward. We can’t tell if this is any better compared to what we’re already used to but it’s definitely a whole different driving experience.

The McLaren Ultimate Vision GT will make its debut in Gran Turismo Sport, October 17.
