Mercedes-AMG C63 R Coupe Caught Trying on Massive Rear Wing on the Nürburgring

Watch out, BMW M4 GTS!

The letter "R" looks set to strengthen its position as the most powerful one in Mercedes-AMG's alphabet.

Following the GT R supercar, the automaker is cooking another "R" model, based on the C63 Coupe. We know that because our spy photographers have caught on camera one pumped-up C63 Coupe test car flexing its muscles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. While we don't know for sure that this particular C63 Coupe prototype will wear the "R" badge, it's clearly a hardcore performance variant.

The body kit is significantly more aggressive than on the regular C63 Coupe and C63 S Coupe, with the most noticeable changes including a massive rear wing, front spoiler, and black boot lid – although we're not sure the latter will survive on the production model.

There's no doubt that the engine is the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo unit, but in which state of tune? 577 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque from the AMG GT R or 549 hp and 502 lb-ft (681 Nm) from the recently-unveiled AMG GT C Roadster?

Either way, it would still top the current most powerful C63 Coupe (the S) which has 503 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque.

The launch date remains uncertain too, but given that Mercedes-AMG didn't bother to hide many things on the prototype, it may arrive rather sooner than later.
