Mercedes-Benz Teases Sleek Pickup Concept Ahead of October 25 Reveal

It’s a design study for now, so expect less bling from the production model

Mercedes-Benz has announced that its first mass-produced pickup truck will debut on October 25, in Stockholm.

No additional information was released, except a teaser video that gives us a glimpse at the upcoming model from Stuttgart. The familiar side view confirms what we already knew, that the pickup will be based on the Nissan NP300 Navara, just like Renault's Alaskan.

As expected, the details are quite different from its mechanically-related siblings, with the Mercedes sporting a sleek front end with teardrop-shaped headlights, a sporty grille with honeycomb mesh, big air intake in the aggressive front bumper, and stylish alloy wheels. Don't get too excited, though: this is only a concept vehicle, with the production version likely to be toned down a little.

Most likely, the Mercedes-Benz pickup will feature the same 2.3-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine from the Navara, on which it is available in two states of tune: 160 PS (158 hp) or 190 PS (187 hp). Some say the automaker will also fit its 258 PS (255 hp) 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel from its passenger cars, making the pickup a rival for the range-topping version of VW's Amarok.

Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the vehicle's official reveal.
