Just don’t ask why
Did it ever cross your mind that a convertible Ford F-150 was a good idea? Of course not, but that doesn't mean other people haven't thought about it.
Hell, some have even turned it into a reality. I'm talking about Newport Convertible Engineering (NCE), a coach-building company that specializes in chopping the roofs of cars that don't have convertible versions.
Starting from a 2017 Ford F-150, NCE has developed a convertible variant that replaces the roof with a power-folding canvas top. Other modifications include the addition of a roll bar, which is said to make up for some of the structural rigidity lost with the removal of the stock roof. The roll bar also provides the F-150 with a place to attach the rear door hinges.
I'll let you be the judge of the F-150 Convertible's looks (either with the top down or up), and the official video may help you with that. It shows the drop-top Ford pickup in action and offers some close-ups that reveal a not so great fit and finish. One thing's for sure: highway noise levels will be higher than in the regular version.
From a mechanical point of view, the F-150 is equipped with the second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivering 375 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque, mated to the new 10-speed automatic transmission.
