This means the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine may be phased out
Renault is reportedly going to change its technical formula for the upcoming hot Megane RenaultSport, in-keeping with the modifications it operated when it released an all-new version of the Clio RS.
This means the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine may be phased out, in favor of using an uprated version of the Clio’s downsized 1.6-liter power plant. Along with it, Australia’s CarAdvice reports the Megane RS is to also gain a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, in keeping with the Clio RS and the general trend from within the hot hatch sector.
Coupling this with the fact we already know the French automaker won’t offer it in three-door guise, it’s clear the aim is to broaden this new fastest Megane’s appeal. This follows the trend set by other automakers and their latest hot hatch offerings.
The next Megane RS will go up against the stiffest competition it’s ever had to face. Renault’s compatriots over at Peugeot are also challenging them in the sector for the first time in nearly two decades, with the above-average all-new 308 GTi. There’s also the frisky Ford Focus ST, the serious (-ly well rounded and premium-feeling) VW Golf GTI and the clinical Honda Civic Type-R.
