Nissan to Finally Cease Sales of Previous-Gen Y61 Patrol Off-Roader; Launches Aussie Special Edition

It’s the no-nonsense large, rugged and off-roader that some buyers still want

While Nissan may have already launched a newer generation Patrol in 2010, the sixth incarnation of the model, in some markets it kept selling the old Y61 (wagon) and UY61 (chassis cab) models that debuted in 1997. It is still available in Australia, South Africa, some Middle Eastern countries, as well as some African nations as well.

It is being discontinued, though, and for the Australian market where it was hugely popular, they decided to launch a sendoff special edition to mark its imminent demise.

Called Y61 Patrol Legend Edition, it packs $10,000 AUD of goodies and it’s production run will be limited to 300 units. Powering it is Nissan’s “proven” 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic.

The Y61 was appreciated for its excellent off-road capabilities which come courtesy of a low range box, rear diff lock and three- and five-link suspension setups for the front and rear respectively; all corners get coil springs too.

The Legend Edition can be had in two shades of white (Polar or Diamond White), as well as Platinum. The aforementioned extras include a heavy-duty bull bar up front that comes complete with electric winch, a tow bar, sat-nav, rear-view camera, roof rack, snorkel, a soft cover for the spare and custom decals for the body.

The price for a manual-equipped examples is $57,990 AUD, with the automatic bringing the price to $60,990 AUD.
