Nissan turns up the luxury dial on 2018 Armada with Platinum Reserve range-topper

It debuted at the State Fair of Texas

Nissan's biggest SUV on sale in the United States has just received a new Platinum Reserve trim level that makes it stand out even more. That's because we're talking about the range-topping grade for the 2018 Armada, which brings both styling tweaks and more luxurious features.

Unveiled at the State Fair of Texas (because The Lone Star State is the biggest market for the Armada) the Platinum Reserve grade builds on the existing Platinum by adding both design and equipment upgrades.

Styling-wise, the 2018 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve gains a Dark Chrome exterior trim for the front grille, door handles and side mirror caps, as well as 20-inch Dark Chrome wheels.

Inside, the big body-on-frame SUV receives a custom treatment including a two-tone leather-appointed upholstery with unique stitching, Black Quartz premium wood-tone interior trim, as well as embossed "Platinum Reserve" emblem on the console lid.

Tech-wise, the range-topping Armada offers the standard Intelligent Rear View Mirror (I-RVM) which uses a high-resolution camera fitted to the rear of the vehicle to project a clear image onto an LCD monitor built into the standard rearview mirror. Using a switch located at the bottom of the mirror, the driver can access either the basic rearview mirror or the I-RVM.

Also standard is a DVD Family Entertainment System with dual 8.0-inch head restraint DVD monitors, USB and HDMI ports, VTR jacks (two), two wireless headphones, and remote controller.

Nothing changes as far as the engine is concerned, with the 2018 Armada Platinum Reserve being motivated by the same 5.6-liter V8 gasoline engine rated at 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque. The unit is mated to a standard seven-speed automatic transmission that works with either 2WD or 4WD.

Platinum Reserve Armadas are expected to arrive at Nissan dealerships across the U.S. in late October, with prices starting at $61,690 for the 2WD model and $64,590 for the 4WD model.

If you want even more luxury, Infiniti will sell you a glitzier Armada called the QX80.
