Opel Grandland X goes on sale in Germany with €23,700 base price

The new SUV will arrive in European dealerships from September

Opel has started taking orders for its all-new Grandland X compact SUV, which will have its formal debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Deliveries across Europe will follow shortly after the auto show. In Germany, the Grandland X starts at €23,700 with the 130 hp 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and €26,500 with the 120 hp 1.6-liter turbodiesel.

Standard equipment is generous, according to Opel, and includes air conditioning, comfort seats, a 40:60 split-folding rear seat back, Radio R4.0 with Bluetooth hands-free phone capability, and Opel OnStar (from the Edition trim level upwards). Standard safety features include Lane Departure Warning, Road Sign Recognition, and Hill Start Assist.

The list of optional extras is long, with highlights including Adaptive Cruise Control with stop function (€800), panoramic sunroof (€700), eight-speaker Denon premium sound system (€580), Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) LED headlamps, heated seats and steering wheel, power tailgate, and more.

Available driver-assistive systems include Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking and pedestrian detection, Driver Drowsiness Alert, Advanced Park Assist and a 360-degree camera (all standard on the Innovation trim level).

The Grandland is 4,480-mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,675 mm, allowing for generous interior space, according to the automaker. It also offers a cargo capacity of 514 to 1,652 liters.

At launch, the SUV will offer two powertrain options: a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline unit rated at 130 hp and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft), and a 1.6-liter turbodiesel delivering 120 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). Both engines can be linked to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. More powerful engines will be added later on.

Sadly, there is no all-wheel-drive system available, but Opel says the optional electronic Grip Control system with five modes provides "top traction all year round and on every surface."
