Peugeot rebadges Chinese pickup for sale in Africa

Prospective buyers will be happy to note it’s actually the Rich New pickup underneath

Peugeot was once famous for the rugged pickups it sold in Africa where distances are vast and roads often inexistent. Now after a decade absence, the French automaker returns with a new Africa-ready pickup it simply calls ‘Pick Up’ – expect to see it in showrooms in September.

But this isn’t actually a Peugeot, regardless of what its grille and badges say – it’s actually a rebadged version of the Rich New pickup made by Zhengzhou Nissan in China. The press pack doesn’t contain any shots of its interior, but aside from steering wheel and details we expect it to be the same too.

The engine is also the same as that of the China market model, a 2.5-liter diesel unit with 115 hp and 280 Nm – rear- or all-wheel drive options are available. On 4×4 models, it gets low and high modes, as well as “a chrome bow at the level of the bed, roof bars and lateral footboards.”

But what’s most important here is its load carrying capacity over rough terrain – its bed measures 1.4 meters by 1.39 meters (almost square) into which you can fit up to 815 kg.
