Porsche’s Future EVs to Bear 919 Hybrid Tech

The Stuttgart carmaker wants to go big in the electric vehicles segment; the 919 Le Mans prototype will be involved

Porsche gets its electric mobility game stronger and stronger. And, to be honest, it sounds a bit unusual to say this about Porsche, because its first ever car was a fully-electric one.

After adopting three hybrid members in its family – Panamera S E-Hybrid, Cayenne S-E Hybrid and 918 Spyder – the German sports car manufacturer is prepared to move forward to a full-electric model, expected to break cover in 2020.

Unsurprisingly, it will be based on the Mission E prototype showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015 – and we hope it’ll have the exactly same form. As for the underpinnings, Porsche’s purest car will bear the technology used in the 919 Hybrid, this year’s winner at Le Mans 24h.

As the manufacturer states, “the 919 served as the trial vehicle for the voltage level on future hybrid systems,” a mule from which Porsche is learning a lot about what a full-electric sports car would need.

That means the future full-electric Porsche will have a winner’s DNA; as cheesy as that may sound, it’s irrefutable.
