Range Rover Sport Gets New 2.0L Diesel for 2017, Semi-Autonomous Tech

The 240 PS 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel makes the Range Rover Sport more economical than ever

The Range Rover Sport gets a series of updates for the 2017 model year, highlighted by a new four-cylinder diesel for European markets.

Going on sale in winter 2016, the 2017MY Range Rover Sport gains the 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine, offered in its most powerful variant yet. The turbodiesel unit delivers 240 PS (237 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, allowing the Range Rover Sport to go from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in a reasonably sporty 8.0 seconds.

But the new engine is more relevant for its fuel efficiency, with Land Rover claiming it returns 45.6 mpg UK (6.2 l/100 km or 38 mpg US) and 164 g/km CO2 when fitted to the Range Rover Sport, making it the model to buy for eco-conscious customers. Unfortunately for diesel fans in the US, the engine won’t be offered across the Atlantic.

Another new addition for the 2017 Range Rover Sport in the UK is the 3.0-liter V6 supercharged gasoline engine, which wasn’t previously available in the model’s home market. The engine puts out 340 PS (335 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque for a 0 to 60 time of 7.1 seconds while CO2 emissions are officially rated at 243 g/km.

Besides the new engines, the 2017 Range Rover Sport gains a series of semi-autonomous driving technologies, sourced from the Range Rover flagship. These include Advanced Tow Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Intelligent Speed Limiter, among other things. Furthermore, the Range Rover Sport’s off-road capabilities stand to gain from new features such as Low Traction Launch and an updated 4x4i menu.

UK prices for the updated Range Rover Sport start from £59,700 for the 2.0-liter SD4 HSE model.
