Report Suggests Renault’s Alpine May Make a Convertible and SUV; We Render the Latter

A hotter, more track-focused version of the hardtop sports car is also being considered

Renault’s revived Alpine brand has yet to produce a series vehicle and already rumors of additional models are spamming the web. According to Autocar, Alpine will not only make a convertible version of the upcoming sports car, but an SUV after that as well.

The hardtop Alpine-branded sports car (pictured) is set to debut before the conclusion of 2016, but the quoted report suggests that it will be joined by a more track-focused version of itself, then followed by the drop-top.

Autocar quotes Alpine boss Michael van der Sande, who said they “have to prove the demand is there for such a car (i.e. the standard hardtop) and then start seeing which of our plans make most sense. A faster version looks like it would have potential, and I could imagine a beautiful convertible could be a possibility, but nothing is decided.”

A second report posted by the UK publication also adds speculation regarding the SUV. Van der Sande reportedly said its creation was “inevitable,” because according to him, in order “to build a brand, you need a product line-up that maintains demand. Alpine was always about launching a brand, not just a sports car,” he said.

However, while he did admit they’re currently analyzing “six or seven proposals” for additional models, he made it clear they’ve yet to decide exactly which ones they will be going for.

Finally, since the SUV/crossover would be Alpine's moneymaker and therefor the most likely extra model to get built, I decided to give visualizing what one would look like a try.
