Rolls-Royce won’t build hybrids because the 1% doesn’t do half measures

We can’t give you a launch date yet, but the no-hybrid policy is pretty clear

You won't see a hybrid powertrain featured on RR's future car lineup, but expect pure electrification to make an appearance in the near future.

Speaking to Autocar, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Otvö made it clear that electric powertrains are "the propulsion system for the future, make no error" and that "there is a time – nobody can predict when – when there will be no combustion engines."

Therefore, his company will not make any compromise that involves using hybrid tech for its vehicles.

When Rolls-Royce decides to introduce their first EV, expect it to feature plenty BMW know-how. The Vision Next 100 concept introduced last year on BMW's 100th anniversary could provide a hint that supports this theory.

Furthermore, Mr. Müller-Otvö also said that autonomous driving bears little priority for Rolls-Royce and it does make sense since most customers are being chauffeured around and regularly opt out of sitting behind the wheel.
