Compression ignition engines, commonly referred to as ‘diesels’ from the name of their inventor, require no spark for combustion and are renowned for their superior efficiency compared to gasoline burning engines. However, in the case of some diesel engines, the compression ignition goes wild and the engine begins overrevving itself to bits.
It’s really a rather spectacular thing to see, and quite exhilarating, given that it’s just a stationary engine that can’t be stopped.
