Subaru releases U.S. pricing for 2018 WRX and 2018 WRX STI

Both performance sedans have received several updates for the new model year

Earlier this year, Subaru of America announced a series of updates for the 2018 model year WRX and WRX STI.

Now, ahead of the performance sedans' arrival in dealerships this spring, the automaker has released pricing and more details about the updates, which regard performance, comfort, design, and safety.

The 2018 Subaru WRX continues with the same 268 hp 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged Boxer engine, Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring. The standard six-speed manual transmission has a new synchro design and reduced friction, along with smoother clutch take-up. A Sport Lineartronic CVT with manual mode is an option.

Priced from $26,995 for the standard trim model, the 2018 WRX gets revised front styling with a larger lower grille opening, new front and rear suspension tuning for improved steering stability and ride comfort, as well as revised electric power steering (EPS) for a "smoother, more natural feel."

Other measures aimed at improving comfort include a thicker door glass, revised door sealing and a foam-filled windshield header beam. The base WRX now comes with a new, larger multi-function display (5.9-inch), while the WRX Premium upgrades to a Subaru Starlink 7.0" multimedia audio unit from the previous Starlink 6.2" unit.

Also new are the standard heated side mirrors on the base model, a new sport design instrument panel with color display, power windows with off delay at the front, and dual rear seat armrest cupholders.

The 2018 WRX STI receives similar updates but adds a revised Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) AWD system, significantly upgraded brakes and, for the first time, 19-inch wheels.

The DCCD system now uses electronic control for the center limited slip differential instead of the previous combination of mechanical and electronic control. In addition, the STI gets an upgraded Brembo Performance Brake System said to improve braking feel and fade resistance.

Power comes from the same 305-hp 2.5-liter turbocharged Boxer engine. Pricing for the 2018 Subaru WRX STI starts at $36,095.
