Surprisingly evenly matched: Jeep Trackhawk drag races BMW M5

It’s a case of all-wheel drive brawn… versus more brawn

Few will cross-shop these two all-wheel drive performance vehicles, the BMW M5 (600 hp) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (707 hp), but if they did have to choose them based on standing start acceleration, they’d have a hard time picking.

TFL Car got a Dodge Hellcat, the Jeep Trailhawk and a BMW M5 together for some acceleration testing, but since it was winter and the Hellcat is rear-wheel drive, it quickly fell out of the running; any kind of launch from it degenerated into a messy burnout.

Trying to find a faster accelerating car off the line between the Trailhawk and the M5 proved much more difficult as they proved evenly matched. The Jeep has over 100 more horsepower than the BMW, but the German sedan (which on its own is no featherweight) is helped by its weight advantage.

This translates into an extremely close drag race run which you can check out in the video below.
