The High-Beam Abuse Will Get You Dazzled in China

This is an eye-for-an-eye punishment. Literally

Getting caught improperly using your car’s high-beam will get you in front of a police car, staring at its headlights.

Shenzhen Traffic Police started a campaign by which they want to punish the drivers abusing their high-beam headlights. The campaign was announced via a post on Shenzhen Police’s Weibo account (China’s most popular social platform).

Besides paying the 300-yuan ($44) ticket, the traffic violator is supposed to sit, for a minute, on a chair in front of the police vehicle, which has its headlights turned on high-beam mode.

As BBC reports, there was a similar initiative in 2014, one that faced criticism from the public. The recent attempt was, however, highly-praised all over the virtual space, with the original post receiving well over 80,000 shares.

The Shenzhen police forces are known for having unconventional punishments. Last year, the pedestrians caught jaywalking were required to wear a green hat and vest, and assist the police officer in directing the traffic. That, of course, besides paying the fine.
