The McLaren 570GT and Porsche Panamera are reshaping the GT league

A modern grand tourer is about much more than beauty

Looking at the unconventional comparison below it’s safe to say the Gran Turismo (GT) category has grown in more than one direction over the time.

It used to depict alluring two-door coupés that combine both sportiness and comfort in a comprehensive package. The modern GT follows this class’ core ideology but doesn’t cling to the specific number of doors, or the engine’s position.

Take the McLaren 570GT, for example, a 562 hp, 443 lb-ft mid-engine sports car behind the wheel of which you feel like in “a fighter jet,” as Henry Catchpole describes it here.

Another example is the new Porsche Panamera Turbo, a five-meter long four-door limousine that can transport four adults in absolute comfort but is also able to raise their hearts beats. Oh, and as for the alluring attribute, the part the Panamera has everyone looking at is the spoiler.

The Aston Martin DB11 is featured here as a reference point — just to help you remember how beautifully elegant a grand tourer should be.
