This Audi Q7 Commercial Is Incredibly Real

Audi demonstrates that visual augmentation is not exclusively computer generated

We live in the era where everything you’d imagine can be projected on a screen, thanks to computer generated imagery (CGI). (See: almost any movie)

However, Audi just showed us that impressive optical trickery could be done in real life also. Now let’s watch the spot.

See the car that’s clearly something illusive, like a very skillful GCI representation? Well, it’s not CGI, but a very complex mix of reflections and patterns created by super-powerful projectors.

As the explanatory clip from below tells us, an array of 20,000-lumen projectors was used to shoot colorful patterns (in the form of a Q7) in Canada’s Fortress Mountain’s cold air.

Regarding the car, there’s nothing you don’t already know: in the US, the Q7 is only offered with the 333 hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6 unit. Thanks to its light structure, the 3.0 TFSI Q7 can reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.7 seconds, thanks to the eight-speed automatic ‘box and the quattro all-wheel drive system.
