This Is Hyundai’s WRC-Ready i20 Rally Car

It looks like the series i20 downed bucketloads of steroids – ‘bulging’ would be best suited to describe it

Hyundai’s WRC entry into the 2016 championship looks like the series i20 downed bucketloads of steroids – bulging would be the most appropriate word to describe it… It’s now their second car since they reentered the competition back in 2013, when their vehicle was based on the previous-gen i20 and looked nowhere near as aggressive and racy as this new one.

Recently revealed at a special event held at the Hyundai rally team factory garage located in Alzenau, Germany, the i20 WRC is said to be an excellent match for gravel surfaces, which is where the team hopes it will be one of the front runners.

Their objective for the 2016 season is unchanged from previous years: “to be as close as possible to the top and hopefully be able to fight for some victories along the season. I have a lot of confidence in the new car, it’s all new compared to the current version and I’m positive we will be closer to our main rivals,” according to Thierry Neuville, one of the team’s three drivers.

Completing the team for 2016 are Daniel Sordo and Hayden Paddon.

Power for the i20 WRC comes from a 1.6-liter turbo engine with 300 hp. The transmission is a six-speed sequential and traction is of course assured by all-wheel drive.

The car’s first official outing will be at the start of the Monte Carlor Rally in January of 2016.
