This Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is about bonds, being different and mental resets

And of course, getting the best out of driving

The affordable alternative to the 300 SL proves no less charming and downright magical in the eyes of a gearhead.

Sure, the glamorous 300 SL could be blamed for invariably overshadowing its little brother, the 190 SL, but the truth is, the latter remains a thrill-giving machine even without the glitz.

Funny enough, the 190 SL shared styling cues, engineering solutions and a fully independent suspension with the 300 SL, but didn't get the W198 tubular space frame of its big brother, but a shorter and lighter monocoque platform taken from the Mercedes-Benz 190 (W 121).

About the 190 SL in the video, all you need to know is it can easily be turned into a racer via Mercedes' dedicated kits. Owner Michael Potiker went for a Southern California-style race car look.

For him, the setting's importance in the act of driving fades away once the driver is connected to the car and enjoys each of its mechanical tidbits.

The video below aims to capture a small portion of that feeling.
