This video is a tribute to legendary Honda Type R models of the past quarter century

Honda Type R models have, in the space of just 25 years, amassed a huge fan following which came to appreciate the qualities that stood behind the brand. But what are the qualities that stood behind the brand?

Well, as this (sponsored) Autocar review of Type R models made available in the UK (1998 Integra, 1999 Accord, 2001 Civic, 2007 Civic and 2015 Civic) they are definitely quantifiable. If you drive all of the above cars back to back, you will star to see what slew of characteristics make fans go wild all across the world.

The reviewer says that the first two (the pre-2000 cars) feel roughly the same to drive, sporting a hint of floaty character over uneven roads. This is the main thing that he notes changes after the year 2000, with the introduction of the EP3 Civic Type R.

The EP3 feels much stiffer and more planted than the previous two, and this character is carried right through into the previous Civic, the FK2 (which we drove and thoroughly loved), whose only major departure from the formula is the new turbocharged engine. That and an increased propensity to give it fake plastic intakes and scoops which has been carried over into the latest model.
