Apparently, the Swedes are also good at keeping secrets
Remember those success stories told by athletes who kept practicing on the training pitch long after everybody else had left home? Well, they happen in the automotive world as well.
The most recent one comes from Volvo. Surprisingly or not, after last year's WTCC race at the Nürburgring, Cyan Racing didn't just pack its stuff and left. No, sir. They kept the road-going S60 Polestar on the track and to its limits.
And it paid off. In the process, the S60 Polestar lapped the Green Hell in 7:51.110 seconds and broke the record for road-legal four-door cars. For a short amount of time, that's to be added – because Porsche Panamera (7:38) Turbo and Alfa Romeo Giulia QV (7:32) wanted and got a piece of that as well, but still impressive nonetheless.
So instead of shouting about the record, Volvo walked the humble way and focused on getting something out of the experience which could then be used further down the line in both race and road car development phases.
They did make a video out of it, which they only published a couple of days ago.
