Toyota CEO wants you to stop calling their cars boring

He also insists they’re “not lacking in character”

Toyota has gained a reputation of building millions of regular cars that don’t really excite in any way, and oftentimes the word boring has been thrown around to describe them. This, however, doesn’t sit too well with the company’s CEO, Akio Toyoda, who recently made some statements on this matter.

Toyoda said, according to USA Today, that “until now, there were times when Toyota’s cars were called 'boring' or were said to be lacking in character. But I now feel that, in terms of driving and design, our customers have begun to favorably evaluate our cars."

And while it’s debatable whether he is fully accurate in his statement, he does concede that “still room for improvement.”

Looking through Toyota’s latest models roster, one can see that once staid and dull models have recently been garnered with sprinklings of aggression and sportiness, none more so than the latest Camry sedan – it is miles more exciting to look at than before. Other models that have broken the boring design mold are the C-HR, as well as the (albeit not necessarily very pretty) Prius and latest RAV4. Oh, and there’s also the GT86 to point to if the previous shapes aren’t enough.
