Toyota wants you to get excited about its Yaris GRMN hot hathch

It packs 210 hp and is supposedly a “Nurburgring Master”

Toyota is soon going to launch its first proper hot hatch, the Yaris GRMN. It will battle it out in a crowded sector where all rivals have turbocharged engines and it’s the only one force-fed by a supercharger, a 1.8-liter unit with 210 hp.

That should put it right next to the Ford Fiesta ST or Renault Clio RS, although it might have better throttle response than those thanks to the nature of how superchargers operate compared to turbos.

The automaker recently released a quick and intense ad to promote and set the stage for its market debut. It’s quite obvious they really tried to make it seem exciting, especially since the Toyota brand is not necessarily perceived as a maker of fun cars any more. It is changing its boring image with clear intent, but it can only be done one good-to-drive model at a time.
