Uber’s Fleet Will Have Mercedes-Benz Autonomous Vehicles

We’re rapidly progressing towards the self-driving car-sharing era

Daimler is taking another step forward regarding future mobility, as it recently announced a joint venture with Uber.

Daimler plans to supply Uber’s network with self-driving vehicles in the coming years, although no mention of a particular model has been made. However, the press release from Daimler mentioned the new E-Class — the first series production vehicle to be licensed for autonomous driving in Nevada, U.S.

This cooperation is part of Daimler’s CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Services, Electric) strategy through which the group wants to mark “the cornerstone of its future success and the reshaping of mobility.”

Another major CASE approach is regarding the self-driving trucks — Daimler Trucks being the first manufacturer with “plans to develop an autonomous driving system for use in commercial vehicles.”

The German group also gained expertise in the car-sharing market through its car2go service (which reached two million users). The new stake in the automotive world is the car sharing market, so everyone — Daimler included — is trying to get a head start.
