Only 300 will be made, and all will look the same

Mazda has announced a new limited edition model based on the MX-5 RF hardtop roadster. Available only in the UK, the MX-5 RF Sport Black brings bespoke black detailing and interior trim and is offered exclusively with the 160-hp naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine.

The 300 examples will look identical, combining an Eternal Blue Mica exterior paint with contrasting black rear spoiler and door mirrors, as well as gunmetal alloy wheels. Inside, the Sport Black will stand out from regular MX-5 RF models thanks to individual floor mats, scuff plates, and badges.

Based on the SE-L Nav, the limited edition MX-5 RF will bring upgraded standard equipment as well, including leather seats, rain-sensing front wipers, rear parking sensors, and automatic headlights. A limited slip differential is also standard, as is the Mica paint — otherwise an optional extra on regular MX-5 RF models.

Nothing changes from a performance point of view, with the MX-5 RF Sport Black covering the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph) with the six-speed manual transmission.

The Mazda MX-5 RF Sport Black will go on sale in the UK on May 28 with a £25,695 starting price. Fans will be able to see it in public for the first time on April 29 at the 2018 MX-5 Owners Club Spring Rally held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
