Volkswagen Arteon Reportedly in Line for Shooting Brake Version

Is VW in a hurry?

Recently trumpeted by a sketch but also spotted in the wild by our spy photographers, the upcoming Arteon could spawn a shooting brake variant in the near future.

Autocar had a chat with Elmar-Marius Licharz, VW’s chief of full-size product lines, who mentioned that although they need an encouraging response from the public regarding the base car, a shooting brake derivative "looks quite good."

Furthermore, the official noted that such a version "could work" from the brand's perspective, but initially, it needs a "business case."

Volkswagen's Arteon comes to replace the CC in Wolfsburg's model lineup and will feature 3D headlights threaded with styling cues inspired by the Sport Coupé GTE concept.

Powertrain-related info is scarce, but Arteon might get a diesel V6 diesel derived from the 300-horsepower engine found in the China-focused VW Phideon, along with the optional 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

Voices also suggest a price tag of at least €33,000, but it's still too early for such suppositions, so let's wait until the model makes a debut next March, in Geneva.
