VW Amarok Gets New 201 HP V6 Diesel, Canyon Special Edition

It remains the only pickup truck in its segment powered by a 3.0L V6 turbodiesel unit

This year's IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover (September 22-29) will see the world debut of a new engine version for the VW Amarok pickup truck, as well as a new special edition Canyon model and the Comfortline trim level.

These new models will be unveiled alongide the previously announced Amarok Aventura and Amarok Highline. The new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel delivers 204 PS (201 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. Available with either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox, the Amarok equipped with this new engine is all-wheel drive as standard. The new engine is available in the Canyon, Comfortline and Highline model variants.

The 204 PS 3.0 TDI is the intermediate version of the V6 power plant, with VW also offering the engine with 224 PS (221 hp) and 550 Nm (406 Nm) of torque. The unit will also be available in a lower state of tune in the future.

Besides the new engine variant, the Amarok range also gains a new special edition model called the Canyon. Based on the double-cab body style of the Comfortline trim level, the VW Amarok Canyon features a more rugged appearance courtesy of 17-inch "Aragua" two-tone alloy wheels, matt black sill panel tubes, and matt black sports bar.

Additional black add-on parts include the door handles, the B-pillars, the wheel arch extensions (optional), the cargo area coating for the cargo box, and the smoked taillights.

The Amarok Canyon starts from €43,208.90 in Germany while the Amarok Comfortline is priced from €38,829.70 (both prices including VAT). Both models are on order now, but the Amarok Canyon will have its market launch in the spring of 2017.
