VW’s Sub-Tiguan Crossover Surfaces Online

Will basically be a jacked up Polo with more rugged design details that may be called T-Roc

Volkswagen is preparing to take the fight to the Mazda CX-3, Ford EcoSport and Honda HR-V with a new mini-SUV model whose silhouette just surfaced online from what appears to be an official presentation. It really does look like the real deal, complete with unimaginative VW styling – had it been more flamboyant, we would have suspected it of not being the real deal…

But dullness doesn’t seem to bother VW, and it’s the byword to describe their entire range. And things aren’t really looking up for them, as the next Polo (caught testing in South Africa) is just as bland as you expect.

Its engine range will be shared with the Polo and Golf, so expect the big sellers to be the 1.6-liter diesel and small turbo gasoline units – 1.0- and 1.5-liter turbo units; a 2.0-liter TDI will be available, as well all-wheel drive on top spec models.

Some sources suggest the model will use the T-Roc name, the name of a concept (pictured above) VW showed back in 2014. However, to our eyes it doesn’t really look like a production version of that – we’ll have to see its final form before casting final judgment.
