The CC replacement is on its way to becoming the flagship of VW’s passenger car range
VW will start deliveries of the all-new Arteon to customers this month, so it's time we browse through a mega photo gallery and the specs of the successor to the CC.
The pics, taken during the first press drive event that took place in Hanover, Germany, allow us to see the differences between the Elegance (gray car) and R-Line (yellow car) trim levels. There's also a base Arteon trim level that VW is not too keen on showing us, apparently — most likely since the other two look better.
Since we already know a lot about the car, we'll focus on the engine lineup and the specs, as VW has released full details on this occasion.
The entry-level gasoline engine will be the 1.5 TSI Evo with cylinder deactivation, launched on the facelifted Golf. With an output of 150 hp, the unit will be offered as standard with a six-speed manual transmission, with a seven-speed DSG to be optional (except in Germany, where it will be manual-only).
The following unit is a 2.0 TSI with 190 hp, offered exclusively with the DSG. The range-topping gasoline engine will another 2.0 TSI with 280 PS, standard DSG and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
The entry-level diesel engine will be the 2.0 TDI with 150 hp, offering a standard six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. One step above will be another 2.0 TDI with 190 hp, the same gearbox options, and the possibility of selecting the 4Motion AWD system. Finally, the top-of-the-line diesel-powered Arteon will feature a 2.0 TDI biturbo unit with 240 hp, DSG, and 4Motion as standard.
At launch, only the range-topping gasoline and diesel engines will be available, plus the 150 hp 2.0 TDI. The latter will be the most economical, with a claimed average fuel consumption of 4.4 l/100 km. Thanks to a maximum torque of 350 Nm available from 1,750 rpm to 3,000 rpm, it will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 220 km/h.
The biturbo diesel has a peak torque of 500 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, an average mileage of 5.9 l/100, and can reach 245 km/h. Finally, the 280 hp 2.0 TSI is the quickest model, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h. Combined fuel economy is 7.3 l/100 km.
