Remember Japan's Aspark Owl electric hypercar? Well, let us refresh your memory a bit. Unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the spectacular machine was said to cover the 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in under 2 seconds.
Its makers said that was made possible by the all-carbon bodywork, an all-electric powertrain that delivers around 1,000 horsepower, and an aerodynamic body with a height of just 39 inches (0.99 meters).
While last year we showed you videos of a stripped-out Owl development prototype doing acceleration runs, it looks like the electric hypercar is now doing 0-100 km/h runs in production spec. The results are truly spectacular.
A journalist from Japan's Gigazine witnessed the Owl going from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.921 seconds, which is an incredible figure — remember, the Tesla Model S P100D in Ludicrous+ mode needed 2.28 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph in a MotorTrend test.
Equally astonishing is the short distance the Aspark Owl needs to brake from 100 km/h to rest — the whole test takes place in a tiny parking lot.
In fairness, the hypercar was fitted with slick tires, which were heated for the 0-100 km/h run, but the company wants to repeat the test with road-approved tires targeting the same result.
Aspark wants to build 50 Owls, each priced at around €3.5 million (approximately $4.4 million). But enough talking, take a look at Aspark Owl's spectacular 0-100 km/h runs.
