Watch Ram 3500, Ford F350, and Chevy Silverado 3500 in a Heavyweight Duel

A decisive drag race to find out which is the quickest oil-burner

When you think about America’s heavy-duty class of pickups, you imagine huge two-wheeled trucks pulling horse trailers, boat trailers, 18-wheelers, airliners or whatever you want to attach to their rear hooking system.

Or, you know, you can take them to the drag strip to squeeze every horsepower and pound-foot of torque from their infamously large diesel engines. Like Fast Lane Truck did.

The three contenders in the clip above are the Ram 3500, Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD, and Ford F-350 Super Duty. The RAM is the less powerful here, with its inline-six Cummins packing 385 hp and 900 lb-ft of torque.

Next in line is the Ford, here in Power Stroke Diesel V8 guise, which translates to 440 hp and 925 lb-ft. So the Silverado has the best power figures: a hefty 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque delivered by the brand-new 6.6-liter Duramax V8.

The curb weight is also worth mentioning, as this is a drag, not a pulling contest: the lightest in the heavy duty category is the Silverado (some 8,000 pounds), followed by the F-350 (8,520 lb). The Ram seems the most disadvantaged of the three; not only it has a two-cylinder handicap, but is also the heaviest, tipping the scales at 8,620 pounds.

Knowing all these figures, which model do you think will be crowned as the quickest heavy-duty truck?
