What does GTS mean? Porsche explains

porsche 718 gts

Now all we need to know what the S stands for*

Porsche has this series of YouTube videos called “Porsche answers your most popular questions,” a good opportunity to clarify, once and for all, how to pronounce “Porsche,” for example.

Other interesting facts from this series: the 911 is called 911 because of the French people, and PDK (abbreviation for PorscheDoppelKlupplungsGetriebe) is one of the most complicated German words. The last one was hard to tell, considering the German word for matchbox is “Streichholzschachtel.” I mean, what is not complicated in the German language?

But now it’s time to find out what the Porsche GTS stands for. Or at least the first two out of the three letters.

*GTS means Gran Turismo Sport, just like the video game (that, ironically, features way too few Porsches). In motorsport, it describes a sports car comfy enough to spare your kidneys in hours-long endurance races. The 904 GTS was the first to bear this moniker. In marketing, it’s one of the two or three fastest versions of a Porsche model range.
