You can now make your phone sound like a genuine Ford Mustang

We’re talking about the more potent, V8-powered GT version

Ford is sharing the growly sound of a raging Mustang GT via a free downloadable ringtone.

The Mustang GT features an active valve performance system that changes the tonality of the V8-powered pony car depending on your desire. It also has predefined parameters — the most aggressive voice arriving in Track mode — but it can be tailored to a particular user's preferences via the MyMode settings panel. That's an all-new feature that can also be found in the 2018 Mustang GT's SYNC infotainment system.

The 14-second audio file captures the 5.0-liter V8's start up, followed by a full-on run to 155 mph. In the 2018 Mustang GT, the mufflers are larger than in the pre-facelift version, so the active valve system makes the exhaust growl "the way a Mustang should and the new ringtone is a great way for fans to have fun with that,” according to Matt Flis, Ford exhaust development engineer.

While the Race Mode-engaged Mustang GT delivers eargasms through its potent V8 sound, the entry-level EcoBoost version is making us wonder why the Active Noise Control is so intrusive — it's fun for a while, but it's getting annoying after you start to realize how fake it is. Pro tip: if you're opting for an aftermarket solution for your EcoBoost's sound system, you also get rid of the Active Noise Control feature.
