We’re back on the 2019 Toyota Corolla topic with an updated set of specs and pretty much all the info you need on the hatchback.
A debut at the NYIAS gave us a few clues about what Toyota had in store for the Corolla Hatchback, but it is now time we delved into more details.
Compared to the Corolla iM it replaces, the 2019 model has a longer wheelbase of 103.9 in versus 102.4 in but is shorter at 169.9 in instead of 170.5 in and also lower at 57.1 in as opposed to 57.5 in. Width takes a hike from 69.3 in to 69.9 in.
Under the 2019 Corolla Hatcback's hood lies a 2-liter (1,987 cc), four-cylinder Dynamic Force gasoline engine (M20A-FKS) fitted with Toyota’s D-4S fuel injection setup and dual VVT-i (variable valve timing). The engine’s compression ratio stands at up to 13:1. Power output is rated at 168 hp while torque resides at 151 lb-ft.
Available gearboxes include a new Dynamic-Shift CVT or a six-speed iMT manual. The CVT is rigged to simulate 10 gears (even has a launch gear, a first in a passenger vehicle-oriented CVT) and comes with both a sport mode and paddle shifters.
On the safety front, every Corolla hatch will feature Toyota’s TSS 2.0 suite, seven airbags, traction control, ABS, brake assist and a blind spot monitor.
Other features included in the updated Toyota Safety Sense pack are the likes of pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar-based cruise control (active at speeds between 0 and 110 mph), lane departure alert with steering assist and automatic high beam. There are also two new additions to the bundle, namely the lane tracing and road sign assist features.
For starters, two trim levels are set to split the range: SE and XSE. Toyota says the difference between these is distinct, but both offer LED headlights and taillights, a chrome rear diffuser and alloy wheels.
The XSE’s flashier nature is expressed by 18-inch wheels, a chrome grille surround and LED fog lights.
