The stylish Ford Fusion (known as the Mondeo in Europe) has gone under the knife for the first time. It’s been restyled and updated as part of its obligatory mid-life refresh and it also gets a proper sporty variant for the first time.

Called Fusion Sport, this new top of the range variant gets its power from the now familiar 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 hooked up to a six-speed automatic gearbox; it sends the power to all four wheels.

Power is rated at 350 hp and torque is a healthy 475 Nm / 350 lb-ft. Actual performance numbers were not mentioned, but we do know the Sport will get adjustable dampers as standard, a more aggressive front fascia (complete with reshaped, larger grille) and dual exhausts at the back.

SYNC 3 will also be made available on the 2017 Fusion, and it promises a much improved infotainment experience. Ford claims it’s improved the response and resolution of the screen as well as the actual user interface; it’s now more customizable and if for instance you’re using Android Auto, it will get a dedicated icon on the home screen to make accessing its functions easier than before.
