Peugeot has given its 208 B-segment hatchback its first facelift, three years after launch
The changes are subtle from a styling point of view, with updates also including new Euro 6 engines and upgraded technologies.
Aesthetically, the facelifted Peugeot 208 features modest tweaks such as a new front bumper, a wider grille, smoked headlights, new standard LED taillights and the addition of new body colors, including one called Orange Power. Peugeot also offers a new range of customizing options.
The Peugeot 208 range features two new models, the GT Line and GTi by Peugeot Sport. The latter model is actually the former GTi 30th Anniversary Edition, which has now become a permanent offer. New features offered by the refreshed 208 include reversing camera systems and the Active City Brake technology, which can apply the brakes when the car is traveling at less than 20 mph (30 km/h) in order to avoid an accident.
Under the hood, the Peugeot 208 gets the same engine lineup as before, with all units now complying with the Euro 6 standard. A new Efficient Automatic Transmission 6 (EAT6) 6-speed automatic gearbox has been introduced.
The 1.6-liter BlueHDI diesel is offered in three versions: 75 PS (74 hp), 100 PS (99 hp) and 120 PS (118 hp). The more powerful version is linked to a six-speed manual transmission, while the other two units get a five-speed manual gearbox. Fuel consumption is as low as 3 l/100 km (78.4 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 79 g/km.
Gasoline engines include two naturally aspirated three-cylinder units – a 68 PS (67 hp) 1.0-liter and a 82 PS (81 hp) 1.2-liter. A turbocharged 110 PS (109 hp) 1.2-liter engine is also offered. Finally, the 1.6-liter THP turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available in two versions: 165 PS (161 hp) and 208 PS (205 hp).
The refreshed Peugeot 208 family goes on sale in Europe from June 2015.
