DS 5 Commande Spéciale Brings French Luxury Brand into the Bespoke Business

DS’ new Commandes Spéciales division will craft “haute couture” projects

PSA Group's luxury brand DS is getting into the bespoke car building business, and its first project will debut at the Paris Motor Show.

It's not something new for the company, though, as Citroën built special DS models in the past for celebrities and politicians, with projects including bespoke armored vehicles, partnerships with coachbuilders such as Chapron, and a series of colors for the roof and body of the original DS.

From now on, DS will officially have a division that will build cars tailored to customers' specific desires. It is called Commandes Spéciales (French for "special orders") and its first project is already a reality.

Suggestively called DS 5 Commande Spéciale, the unique model was built to the exact specifications of a customer referred to as "Mrs. L" in the press release. DS craftspeople worked four months on the DS 5, which received a unique Stardust Black glittery deep black shade for the bodywork, as well as a "highly refined interior design."

For the DS 5 Commande Spéciale, the brand's renowned watch strap design for the Nappa leather upholstery has gained a plaited-effect finish, which can also be seen on the door panels, instrument binnacle, central armrest and rear shelf. The one-off DS 5 model also features metallic-effect leather on all the interior trim parts, including the steering wheel trim, door handles, and roof trim.

Other personalized touches include the Amétryne Green velour inside the storage compartments, with the same color being used for the protective mats, as the client is a big fan of the DS E-Tense Concept which debuted this hue. The titanium gear lever knob, produced using parametric design and 3D printing, completes the changes.
