Few brands remained as loyal to their ideology as Lotus

Adding more power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere, famously said Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus. It’s an idea the British sports car brand kept almost unaltered for 70 years. And it looks like it will never going to change.

Celebrating its 70th birthday, Lotus published a short clip that reads: “A private test track, two professional drivers, a lot of tyres and no CGI were used in the making of this video.” You probably know already what’s coming.

The drivers were Lotus’ Head of Attributes Gavan Kershaw, and Vehicle Dynamics Engineer Daniel Peck, both killing tires in the Exige Sport 410, and Evora GT410 Sport.

The Exige Sport 410 draws inspiration from the track-focused Exige Cup 430, running a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 good for 416 PS (410 hp) linked to a six-speed manual ‘box. It promises a 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in just 3.4 seconds and a 290 km/h (180 mph) top speed.

The Evora GT410 Sport is not the most powerful Evora money can buy, but it’s not a feeble choice either. The supercharged 3.5-liter V6 unit packs here the same power figures as in the Exige Sport 410, with slightly different results: the 0-100 km/h launch happens in 4.1 seconds. That’s because, compared with the Exige Sport 410 (1,054 kg), the Evora GT410 (1,280 kg) is heavy.
