The Chevrolet Silverado is back with a new look. And that’s not all.
When you first look at the new Chevrolet Silverado, you notice its dramatic change in looks. It has a more sculpted appearance, and that’s not just to impress. To reduce wind noise, in the cabin, the inlaid doors fit into the body sides and not wrap over the roof. Also, an aluminum hood enhances efficiency due to its lower weight compared to a steel one.
But let’s talk about the engine. It’s a classic 6.2-liter V8, strong enough to haul heavy loads for work when properly equipped. Its 420 horsepower (313 kW) make it the most powerful engine in a light-duty truck. An update is planned for 2016 regarding the expanded use of eight-speed automatic transmission for some 5.3-liter engine models. The rest of the engine lineup has two more EcoTec3 engines – a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 hp (212 kW) and a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp (250 kW).
The 2016 Silverado 1500 includes regular cab and two four-door cabs: the double cab and the crew cab body styles. There’s plenty of space inside, and it’s quiet too. You can use the Silverado as a mobile office, providing hanging files, map pockets, cup holders, USB ports and cell phone storage. When it comes to colors, the Silverado has three options to offer: Jet Black, Jet Black with Dark Ash and Cocoa with Dune Accents.
The Silverado’s not done offering yet. This year, it will be equipped with a new radio (featuring a 7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen and an 8-inch one) which will be faster and more accurate. Both radios will also be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, making them easier to use and more enjoyable at the same time.
Apple Car Play offers easy access to making calls, sending and receiving messages or listening to music (Siri can prove helpful here too). At the same time, Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now, as well as other apps such as WhatsApp, Skype or Spotify.
MyLink is also complemented by OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s a mobile hub for passengers, and it can support up to 7 mobile devices. When the vehicle is on, the OnStar 4G LTE is on.
Albeit it’s made with hard work in mind – having a maximum payload of 2,260 pounds (1,025 kg) and maximum trailering rating of 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg) – Silverado comes with a series of electronic and technologic aids, such as Hill Descent Control (which uses the anti-lock braking system for a smooth descent), Duralife brake rotors (which protects against rust and can double the service life), Trailer sway control and StabiliTrak electronic stability control system among others.
When it comes to safety, the new Silverado does not disappoint. The facelift has available the Enhanced Driver Alert Package, which helps drivers avoid crashes with Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, IntelliBeam headlamp control and, last but not least, the Safety Alert Seat.
