Its all-electric variant will have 110 miles of autonomy
Hyundai’s first ever dedicated hybrid, the Ioniq, has just debuted in North American spec at the NY Auto Show featuring minimal changes. The model had already been shown at the Geneva motor show earlier in the year, and it looks like American buyers will be treated to slightly different exterior styling and different electric range ratings for the all-electric and PHEV variants.
The former is said to have around 110 miles of autonomy, slightly down on original rumors, but on par with rivals such as the new Nissan Leaf.
The electric-only range of the PHEV is lower than that of the Euro variant, but since it uses the exact same 8.9 kWh battery pack, we’ll pin the difference on the different test cycles used – it drops from 31 to 25 miles.
There don’t seem to be other changes, or if they are present, they are not immediately evident.
Mike O’Brien, VP of Hyundai Motor America Corporate and Product Planning, explained “Ioniq will attract an entirely new group of eco- and efficiency-oriented buyers in the U.S. market,” adding that “With outstanding powertrain flexibility, design, connectivity, and advanced technologies, Ioniq meets the needs of a large and growing group of buyers needing a highly efficient, low-emissions vehicle without compromise to their daily lifestyles.”
