2017 Corvette Grand Sport Comes Out to Play on the Track

First official video with the most track-focused ‘vette will make you want it more

With the launch of the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport at the Geneva Motor Show this spring, General Motors has given enthusiasts another reason to dream about America’s sports car.

One of the most focused Corvettes ever, the Grand Sport combines retro styling cues with a track-developed chassis and suspension to provide the maximum driving pleasure the seventh-generation Corvette is capable of.

Powered by the same 460 hp 6.2-liter V8 from the standard Corvette Stingray mated to a standard seven-speed manual with Active Rev Match or an optional paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission, the Grand Sport is lighter, wider, more aerodynamic, has larger brakes, a sportier suspension tune, and a limited-slip rear differential.

Just in case you haven’t seen the specs already, the Corvette Grand Sport goes from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and covers the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 118 mph (190 km/h) — when equipped with the optional Z07 performance package and eight-speed auto.

Spectacular as they are, these figures don’t paint the whole picture, though. Which is why Chevrolet has released a video with the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport in its natural habitat: the circuit. Driven on GM’s Milford Proving Ground by factory racing driver Oliver Gavin, the Grand Sport shows its true colors and racing DNA in the hands of the five-time Le Mans winner.
