2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster Revealed in Two Flavors With Up to 549 HP

The new AMG GT C version bridges the gap between AMG GT S and AMG GT R

Mercedes-AMG has lifted the veils off the second body style of the GT supercar, the Roadster.

Offered in AMG GT Roadster and GT C Roadster variants, the drop-top version of the GT will debut at the Paris Motor Show.

The "C" is a new addition to the Mercedes-AMG GT lineup, bridging the gap between the GT S and the range-topping GT R variant. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine delivers 557 PS (549 hp) and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque available from 1,900 to 5,750 rpm, making the AMG GT C is the most powerful new Roadster variant. The model uses some of the technical upgrades of the AMG GT R, including active rear axle steering and an electronically controlled rear axle locking differential for more precise handling.

With help from the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, the AMG GT C Roadster needs just 3.7 seconds to cover the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint and reaches a top speed of 316 km/h (196 mph). The base AMG GT Roadster goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and reaches 302 km/h (188 mph).

The AMG GT Roadster also takes inspiration from the AMG GT R when it comes to design, featuring more muscular proportions thanks to the wider rear wings that accommodate a wider track and fatter wheels. Other additions compared to the standard model include a performance exhaust system, a lithium-ion battery, as well as amenities such as a nappa leather interior, the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather/Dinamica microfiber and an additional transmission mode called "Race."

The Roadster ditches the fixed metal roof for an electrically-operated, three-layered fabric soft top that opens and closes in around 11 seconds, at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). The automaker offers three colors for the soft top (black, red, and beige) that can be combined with eleven exterior and ten interior colors.
